Polish football club raises 1 million euros on equity crowdfunding platform

Krakow, Poland – In less than 24h, bankruptcy-threatened Polish Football Club Wisla Krakow has raised 4 million polish zloty (nearly one million euros) from the sale of shares on Beesfund. It is the first time in history, that a football club of this class raises funds using the equity crowdfunding platform.

The interest surpassed all expectations. Thanks to Beesfund – the largest equity crowdfunding platform in Central and Eastern Europe – the football club will now be able to pay off some of the liabilities and carry out corrective actions which will guarantee the club’s survival for the next half a year.

The whole action was initiated by a loan granted by Poland legend Jakub Błaszczykowski, who recently rejoined his boyhood club without pay to help revive the  Polish side, Jarosław Krolewski, the founder and President of Synerise, and Tomasz Jazdzynski, of Gremi Media.

“This issue is unique on a global scale and will have a huge impact on football not only in Poland, but also in the world”, says Arkadiusz Regiec, Beesfund CEO.

Despite being one of the most successful Polish football clubs in recent years, winning eight league championships since 1999, Wisła Kraków, who have the joint-second most Polish league titles in history, are facing an uncertain future due to financial difficulties.

The club has now been left “in a state of financial limbo” after a proposed takeover by a French-Cambodian businessman collapsed at the turn of the year.
