Bratislava, Slovakia – What was supposed to be one of the first concerts of Nicki Minaj’s European tour quickly turned into a complete fiasco and was eventually cancelled after thousands of people spent several hours anxiously waiting, in vain, for the rap diva to perform.
Just one day after the European leg of her world tour kick-off in Munich, Germany, Nicki Minaj was due to perform in Bratislava last Friday night. After waiting for several hours, concertgoers were eventually told that their star wouldn’t perform and that the concert was cancelled due to technical constraints and safety issues. At least according to the official version.
The rap diva and world phenomenon later sent a message to her fans on Instagram to apologize to her disappointed audience and explain that the power supply of the building wasn’t sufficient enough to safely operate all the equipment needed for her performance, stressing that safety was paramount in her considerations.
“Gutted. Heart broken. I can’t believe my fans sometimes. After waiting for hours & hours, they still tried to be understanding”, she captioned in a video showing her apologizing to her audience onstage. “I’m so disappointed. Slovakia, I love you so much & I’ll do everything in my power to get back to you as soon as I can”.
Nicki Minaj claimed that she had to wait for several hours herself because the power would immediately trip off after being powered on, and that they had to repeat the operation over and over again without success.
Some concertgoers, expressing their disappointment on social media, were obviously not convinced by the diva’s explanations, especially after the concert’s promoters XL Promotion disputed her claims: according to their statement released on Instagram, the show was simply cancelled because Nicki Minaj and her team were delayed on their trip from Munich and were unable to assemble the stage on time. XL Promotion stressed that the stadium “meets all technical standards and XL Promotion has complied with all conditions sent by Nicki Minaj”.
“Show was cancelled due to production of Nicki Minaj”, XL Promotion concisely announced on Facebook, adding that tickets will be refund in full price.
Despite the Bratislava blunder, the rap star pursued her European tour as planned, performing in Lodz, Poland, on Sunday, and in Budapest, Hungary, the following day. Her next concert will be held in Germany, at Berlin’s Mercedes Benz Arena in Berlin on February 28, followed by more than 20 concerts all over Europe (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium, France, England, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland) until the end of March. She’ll then continue her world tour with a gig in Thailand at the start of April.
According to reports, “the rapper is now reportedly figuring out a new date for her fans in Slovakia”.
