Gdansk, Poland – Gdansk’s Lech Wałęsa Airport (GDN) was named as the fifth best airport in the world and number two in Europe, according to the seventh annual study of AirHelp, released a few days ago.
AirHelp’s ranking is based on passenger experience taking into account several factors, including on-time planes performances, service quality and the offer of food and shops on site.
Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport named fifth best in the world
The airport of Poland’s northern coastal city of Gdansk, which offers both domestic and international connections, is only surpassed by Qatar’s Hamad Airport, crowned number one in the world, Tokyo International Airport, Athens International Airport – all of those three have taken the top spots in AirHelp’s ranking since 2015 – and the Alfonso Pena International Airport, in Brazil.
Gdansk Lech Walesa Airport, located a dozen kilometers from the city, welcomed around 5 million visitors last year and is the third biggest airport in Poland in terms of passenger traffic.
Rounding up the 10 best airports in the world in 2019, we find Moscow’s Sheremetyevo (6th), Singapore’s Changi (7th), India’s Rajiv Gandhi (8th), Spain’s Tenerife North (9th) and Brazil’s Viracopos/Campinas airports (10th).
Poland’s LOT Airlines among best in Europe
Warsaw’s Chopin Airport comes at the 56th position worldwide, well ahead of Krakow’s Jean Paul II International Airport (112th).
In a separate study conducted by AirHelp, Poland’s national LOT Airlines was named as the 20th best in the world, in a ranking dominated by Qatar Airways (1st), American Airlines (2nd) and Aeromexico (3rd).
In another ranking of the world’s best and worst airports released a few weeks ago, Budapest’s was ranked as the best in Central and Eastern Europe.
