Karlovy Vary Film Festival reveals lineup of foreign guest stars

Prague, Czech Republic – The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF) just revealed the lineup of its special guests and foreign stars who will attend, from June 28 to July 6, the 54th edition of one of the most prestigious movie festivals in Europe.

Julianne Moore among special guest stars at 2019 Karlovy Vary Film Festival

Among them, Oscar-winner Julianne Moore and her husband, director Bart Freundlich, are slated to convene, in two weeks time, to the west-Bohemian thermal city.

Moore and Freundlich regularly worked together ever since the latter’s 1997 directorial debut The Myth of Fingerprints, followed by collaborations in World Traveler (2001) and Trust the Man (2005). In Karlovy Vary, the couple will present their latest work together, After the Wedding, that premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Billy Crudup, another high-profile guest star of the 2019 KVIFF, also stars in the movie.

Ever since her first roles in television and cinema breakthrough in the 1993 thriller The Fugitive, Julianne Moore rose to prominence on the world-stage with acclaimed performances in Boogie Nights (1997) The Big Lebowski (1998), Magnolia (1999), The End of the Affair (1999) and The Hours (2003). After three unsuccessful nominations, she won an Oscar for her performance in Still Alice (2014) and received two Golden Globes throughout her prolific career.

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is due to give her a Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema.

Casey Affleck, Patricia Clarkson also in lineup of KVIFF 2019

Casey Affleck and Patricia Clarkson will also head to the Czech spa town later this month. Affleck will present Light of My Life, a movie he wrote, directed and stars in alongside The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss, and which premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival.

Patricia Clarkson is also slated to receive a Crystal Globe for Outstanding Artistic Contribution to World Cinema during the closing ceremony, and will present the movie Driving Licence.

This year, the Grand Jury of the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival is composed of French film critic Charles Tesson, Greek actress Angeliki Papoulia, Ukrainian filmmaker Sergei Loznitsa, Palestinian director Annemarie Jacir and Czech writer Štěpán Hulík.

In 2018, the lineup of foreign guest stars included Tim Robbins and Robert Pattinson, while Jeremy Renner and Uma Thurman, among others, made the trip to the popular Czech balneal city the previous year.
