Krakow, Poland – Netflix has released pictures of its adaptation the much-anticipated fantasy series, showing the cast in costume for the first time. Coming in anticipation of San Diego Comic-Con 2019, The Witcher stills of Henry Cavill as Geralt, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer and Freya Allan as Ciri will hopefully reassure those fans who were not convinced by a previous first look of the Superman actor in a costume test wearing a very distinctive silver wig.
The Netflix show is an adaptation the world-famous series of fantasy novels by Polish autor Andrzej Sapkowski, which has been previously into a film, a television series, a graphic novel, and a best-selling video game series. Known as the Witcher Saga, Wiedźmin in Polish, the books have a cult following in Poland, as well as in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia.
Principal production of the Netflix show began in October 2018 in Hungary before shifting to the Canary Islands in March 2019. Expected to debut late 2019 or early 2020, The Witcher doesn’t have a firm release date yet. According to the show’s creator, Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, Season 1 will run for eight episodes. More information about The Witcher is expected to be revealed by Netflix during San Diego Comic-Con which will take place on July 19.

The Netflix show is expected to target Game of Thrones fans who have been left hung out to dry after the end of HBO’s epic series’ final season.
