Poland’s DeepSpot to become world’s deepest swimming pool

Warsaw, Poland – The world’s deepest swimming pool is currently under construction in Poland, and is due to open to the public later this year.

The 45m-deep swimming poll (148 feet), called the DeepSpot, is due to open in the Polish city of Msxczonow, 40 km south-west of Warsaw, in autumn 2019. It will contain no less than 8.000 cubic metres of water, or 27 times more water than an ordinary 25 meters pool.

According to the DeepSpot website, the pool will be open to all levels of swimmers, from beginners to seasoned swimmers and professional divers. The access to the deepest part of the pool will nonetheless require specialized diving gear and equipment.

But even if you don’t feel that comfortable 45 meters under water, the pool will also be designed to please those who don’t want to swim: an underwater tunnel for spectators will be built within the pool, as well as conference, training and hotel rooms offering views of its interiors.

The depth of the pool represents roughly half of the height of Big Ben.

You can follow the progress on the DeepSpot Facebook page, which shows the impressive step-by-step construction of the entire complex (see picture below).

Currently, the deepest swimming pool in the world is the ‘Y-40 The Deep Joy‘ diving pool, which opened in 2014 in the northern Italian town of Montegrotto Terme, with a depth of 42 meters.

Sadly, the DeepSpot pool in Poland will only hold the record of the world’s deepest swimming pool for half a year: the Blue Abyss, a 50m-deep pool (164 feet) in Colchester in the U.K., is due to open in the first half of 2020. More than a pool, the Blue Abyss is intended to be a deep sea and space research, training and test facility to enable extreme environment development.

“I wanted to push boundaries, to go beyond the expected, to plan for the future, not just for today”, Blue Abyss creator John Vickers commented. “This is a huge undertaking, but the reality will be a legacy for generations to come”.
